Kispen : Peter and Jane

Terima kasih Abah & Mak
“Kiri, kanan, kiri,”

Jururawat itu cermat mendengar arahan dari seseorang sambil menyarungkan persalinan baru ke tubuhku. Mungkin ini merupakan hari pertamanya, fikirku.

Perbualan seterusnya di antara jururawat itu kembali mengingatkanku, sudah sepuluh bulan aku terlantar di hospital ini.

Sepuluh bulan yang cukup lama bagiku, yang saban hari mendengar setiap patah perkataan yang dituturkan orang di sekitar katil ini - tetapi kondisiku yang sedang koma telah melumpuhkan kemampuanku untuk melihat dan bergerak.

Sepuluh bulan yang cukup lama bagiku, yang saban waktu terpaksa menahan kesakitan yang tak tertahankan, untuk sebab-sebab rumit yang tak mampu aku fahami sepenuhnya kerana doktor-doktor itu sering berbicara sesama mereka dengan suara perlahan bernada bimbang.

Pada awalnya, hanya sendu tangis dan rayuan doa yang aku dengari. Abah, mak dan Sofia tidak pernah lekang menemaniku di sisi. Abangku yang sulung malah nekad menangguhkan peperiksaan akhirnya di Universiti Tokyo untuk melihat keadaanku. Tindakannya itu hampir-hampir membuatku ingin tersenyum.

Mak yang paling banyak menangis, dan paling gigih berdoa. Aku sentiasa mendengar doa mak yang tulus dan tak pernah putus, baik ketika orang lain berbual-bual, atau ketika orang lain berdengkur lena.


“Ya Allah ya Tuhanku, selamatkanlah anakku. Ya Allah ya Tuhanku, kurniakanlah kepadanya ketenangan. Ya Allah ya Tuhanku, hilangkanlah kesakitan yang menimpanya.”

Begitulah pinta mak berulang-ulang. Setiap ketika, setiap waktu.

Suara abah sedikit garau dan tinggi ketika membacakan akhbar Harakah di sisi katilku. Di kesempatan lain, abah membacakan terjemahan al-Quran kepadaku dan pernah suatu hari, abah membacakan seluruh siri Peter and Jane yang suatu ketika dahulu menjadi tatapan kami adik beradik ketika kecil. Aku benar-benar suka mendengar abah bercerita. Abah memang begitu, cuma bersuara bila ada sesuatu dan hanya bercakap bila perlu.

Isteriku Wan Sofia. Rayuan munajat dan esakan tangisnya seakan merobek jantungku yang rapuh. Dalam kesakitan aku dapat merasakan sebelah tangannya menggengam tanganku, dan sebelah lagi mengusap lembut pipiku. Dia tetap setia menemani di sepanjang deritaku.

Bulan berganti bulan, tubuhku semakin lemah dan sakit yang menimpaku semakin bertambah. Aku menjalani empat pembedahan yang dilakukan berasingan. Perlahan-lahan aku dapat merasakan cahaya kehidupanku kian malap dan bakal meninggalkanku.

Namun, setiap untai kata yang terbit dari bibir cantik Sofia memaksaku untuk terus bertahan melawan kesakitan yang berlumba-lumba menjarah tulang belakangku. Lidah dan telingaku mula terasa kebas dan wujud tekanan aneh di dalam dada dan pinggulku.

Hari itu, suara-suara yang kedengaran sedikit berlainan. Aku kemudian mengetahui mereka adalah sekumpulan doktor pakar.

“Akil sekarang dalam kesakitan yang memeritkan. Kami masih tidak pasti adakah Akil akan sembuh selepas ini, tetapi hasil pemeriksaan rapi yang dijalankan, kami boleh katakan keadaannya tidak bertambah baik berbanding sepuluh bulan yang lalu,”

Doktor-doktor itu kemudian beredar, meninggalkan abah, mak dan Sofia. Aku mendengar merdu suara Sofia, teresak-esak dalam tangisnya. Dia meminta izin kepada abah dan mak untuk bersendirian denganku, walaupun cuma sebentar. Tidak lama kemudian kedengaran bunyi pintu dibuka dan ditutup.

Sofia memegang erat tangan kiriku dengan kedua tangannya.

“Sayangku. Kekasih hati seumur hayatku. Sofia rindukan abang. Sofia cintakan abang. Tapi jika benar abang dalam kesakitan seperti kata doktor ... ” Dia terhenti, mengumpul kekuatan untuk meneruskan kata, “Jika abang benar sakit, maka Sofia tak mahu lagi abang terus bertahan untuk Sofia. Cukuplah abang menderita, Sofia tak sanggup lihat abang terus dalam kesakitan. In shaa Allah Sofia akan jumpa abang lagi, suatu hari nanti. Dan dengan izin-Nya, di tempat yang jauh lebih baik. Sofia ... Sofia rela lepaskan abang.” Dia kemudian menyandarkan kepalanya ke bahuku, menangis semahunya.

Sepi memenuhi ruang. Jika mampu, aku sangat ingin mengukir senyum dan memandang wajahnya. Akhirnya aku berhenti melawan, dan saat itu pun kesakitanku turut berhenti.

Menekuni Mashaf Dalam Setalam Mansaf


Mansaf Lahm Urduniyy, Oh yes!

"Baca al-Quran ni sebenarnya .." Dr. Walid menanggalkan spek mata. Sambil menggosok kantanya beliau menyambung, "Samalah macam kamu makan Mansaf,"

Aku cuba brain apa kaitan baca Quran dengan makan mansaf, tetapi gagal. Melihat wajah-wajah keliru di depannya, Dr. membuka cerita dengan menyebut satu persatu step makan Mansaf.

  1. Sambil MULUT kunyah suapan nasi yang pertama,
  2. TANGAN ready kepal nasi untuk suapan kedua,
  3. Sambil TANGAN kepal nasi untuk suapan kedua,
  4. MATA alert lihat ke dalam talam, tentukan area mana nak kaut nasi untuk suapan ketiga.

Kali ni aku cuba brain lebih dalam sambil merenung mashaf ditangan. Tetapi mentol atas kepala tetap sepi tak bercahaya. Akhirnya aku surrender dan mujurlah Dr. tak menunggu lama untuk menerangkan,     

"Begitu juga ketika membaca al-Quran. Perhatikan huruf demi huruf, kalimah demi kalimah. Cermati baris-baris bagi setiap huruf, atas, bawah, depan, tanwin atau mati. Sambil itu teliti juga hukum-hukum tajwid yang terdapat bagi setiap ayat. Setelah kedua matamu benar-benar tekun 'melihat', gerakkan lisanmu sesuai dengan apa yang kamu lihat. Jangan tergesa-gesa, dengan ini bacaanmu akan tersusun dan tartil." 

Aku pandang kawan sebelah. Dia pandang aku balik. Aku senyum geleng kepala sambil dia tersengih-sengih. Siapa sangka kelas tilawah hari tu berakhir dengan didikan ringkas yang luar biasa menarik? Kreatif sungguh Dr. kaitkan ilmu bacaan al-Quran dengan setalam makanan.

Antara hikmah yang aku dapat simpulkan ialah selain keteraturan dalam kehidupan, keteraturan dalam bacaan hanya dapat dicapai dengan tunduk kepada garis hukum dan seluruh peraturan bersumberkan ilmu yang benar.  

Semoga Allah memberkati guru dan ibu bapa kita, kerana mengenal dan mengajarkan al-Quran kepada kita.

Out - Natsuo Kirino : How To Get Away With a Murderer dari Kacamata Wanita

Aku baru habis baca buku ni, Out tulisan Natsuo Kirino. Buku ni cerita pasal relasi 4 watak perempuan pekerja kilang yang terlibat dalam kancah jenayah dan konflik moral apabila salah seorang daripada mereka; Yayoi, telah membunuh/terbunuh suaminya, yang merupakan seorang kaki perempuan, kaki hutang, kaki botol dan kaki dera.

Akibat panik, Yayoi meminta bantuan Masako untuk menyembunyikan mayat suaminya. Buntu tanpa penyelesaian, akhirnya mereka mengambil tindakan drastik dengan mengerat mayat suami Yayoi kepada puluhan bahagian sebelum dibuang ke pelbagai lokasi di tengah-tengah bandar Tokyo. 


Jalan cerita novel ini bertambah menarik setelah seorang bekas banduan yang psiko berjaya menghidu rahsia mereka berempat dan mula merencana untuk berhadapan dengan setiap dari mereka satu demi satu.


Buku ni bagi aku simple dan sangat menarik dari permulaan hingga ke suku akhir plotnya. Setiap watak dikembangkan dengan baik. Naratifnya banyak unsur kejutan dan suspens diselang-seli dengan elemen penyiasatan dan misteri. Walaupun reviu buku ini di Goodreads agak bercampur baur, tapi kalau google, ramai ahli akademik dalam kalangan feminis mengangkat karya ni dalam kajian mereka. Dan penting juga untuk disebut, Out secara halus dan sinis mencabar norma masyarakat Jepun yang melihat wanita sebagai semata-mata objek dan bukannya subjek. No wonder di Jepun, Natsuo Kirino diberi julukan 'The Queen of Japanese Crime.'

TERHADAP INSIDEN BERDARAH DI ORLANDO 13 Jun, 2016

Mewakili komuniti Muslim di Amerika, kami, selaku pihak yang telah menurunkan tandatangan, ingin mengucapkan takziah kepada anggota keluarga dan rakan-rakan mangsa serangan kejam yang berlaku awal pagi semalam di Pulse, sebuah kelab malam LGBTQ di Orlando, Florida. Kami ingin menegaskan bahawa setiap tindakan ganas yang bersumbukan kebencian tidak mempunyai tempat dalam mana-mana agama, termasuk Islam. Sebagai golongan beriman, kita meyakini bahawa semua manusia mempunyai hak untuk berasa aman dan setiap nyawa kehidupan manusia adalah terpelihara dari keganasan.

Kita sedia maklum seiring berlalunya waktu, ada pihak yang mengaitkan tragedi ini dengan agama pelakunya. Mungkin kita tidak akan dapat mengetahui dengan pasti punca sebenar yang mendorong tindakan individu terbabit yang jelas menyimpang dari kebenaran, namun kebanyakkan sumber media mendakwa beliau telah didorong oleh kepercayaannya, dan dakwaan ini merupakan satu bentuk penyelewengan tercela kerana jenayah kejam ini telah mengakibatkan agama Islam terheret sama dalam senarai panjang mangsa-mangsa yang tidak bersalah. Setiap tindakan keganasan adalah pencabulan kepada setiap ajaran Nabi kita. Bagi orang Islam pula, serangan ini yang berlaku dalam bulan Ramadan yang penuh keberkatan - bulan untuk beramal kebajikan, bermuhasabah dan menyucikan diri - menjadikan insiden ini dilihat bertambah teruk.

Sejak peristiwa September 11 2001, masyarakat Muslim di Amerika secara meluasnya telah dihantui rasa bersalah dalam diri mereka; tetapi, ramai rakyat Amerika yang memiliki kesedaran kekal teguh mempertahankan rakan senegara mereka, biarpun terdapat perbezaan dalam kepercayaan serta gaya hidup, termasuklah anggota masyarakat yang menjadi sasaran. Perbezaan bukanlah alasan untuk membenarkan keganasan. Sekalipun rata-rata masyarakat Muslim di Amerika berpegang teguh kepada aturan moral Nabi Ibrahim yang ketat, al-Quran secara jelas mengatakan bahawa perintah agama hanya terpakai kepada orang Islam yang mengikutinya atas jalan pilihan dan bukannya paksaan : "Tidak ada paksaan dalam agama." Di Amerika, setiap individu bebas untuk meraih kebahagiaan menerusi jalan-jalan yang dilihat bersesuaian; dan ini merupakan hak politik kita yang wajar diraikan. Sesiapa dalam kalangan kita yang tinggal di negara ini, tanpa mengira apa jua kepercayaan, mestilah menghormati kesaksamaan semua rakyat Amerika di bawah undang-undang negara. Kami ingin menegaskan bahawa ini merupakan pelangggaran yang keras terhadap norma budaya dan undang-undang Amerika - termasuk juga Islam - dengan meletakkan beban kesalahan individu ke atas bahu seluruh komuniti. Sedangkan di dalam al-Quran ada menyebut, "Setiap jiwa tidak menanggung dosa bagi pihak lain,"

Tiga hari lalu, rakyat Amerika telah memperingati pemergian salah seorang lelaki terhebat dan paling dicintai dalam sejarah Amerika: Muhammad Ali, yang merupakan seorang Muslim yang taat. Islam yang dicerminkan oleh Muhammad Ali ialah Islam yang mengutamakan kasih sayang, toleransi dan menghormati semua pihak. Segenap komuniti Muslim di Amerika merasakan bahawa Muhammad Ali telah berhasil menghapuskan, buat kali pertama dan selama-lamanya, dakwaan kosong yang menyatakan seseorang itu tidak boleh menjadi Muslim dan rakyat Amerika dalam masa yang sama. Kita sebagai masyarakat Muslim Amerika, mencontohi keterbukaan dan Islam inklusif yang dipraktikkan Muhammad Ali, dan kita menolak sepenuhnya unsur kebencian, kepuakan, dan sikap tidak bertoleransi orang-orang yang menginjak hak orang lain, seterusnya mencemar dan mencabul nama Islam. Penjenayah yang meragut puluhan nyawa pengunjung kelab malam Orlando dan mencederakan ramai yang lain merupakan seorang pelampau, sejelas dan semudah itu. Al-Quran mengatakan, "Janganlah kamu bertindak kejam dan melampaui batas, kerana sesungguhnya Allah tidak suka orang yang melampaui batas."


Terdapat puak pelampau di dalam dan di luar Amerika yang melihat dunia dari kaca mata Manichean (asas doktrin yang memisahkan sistem kepada konflik dualistik). Golongan Manichean Amerika mahu rakyat Amerika melihat diri mereka sebagai sepenuhnya "baik" dan seluruh umat Islam sebagai “jahat”. Manakala golongan Manichean Muslim pula mahu umat Islam melihat diri mereka sebagai sepenuhnya "baik" dan seluruh rakyat Amerika sebagai "jahat.". Ini adalah ramuan membinasakan yang akan mencetus keganasan tanpa henti, dan ia mesti ditolak : Kita tidak akan membenarkan puak pelampau ini untuk bersuara mewakili kita, melingkari kita dengan imej kegelapan mereka, atau menyemai benih-benih perpecahan dalam kalangan kita. Kita adalah umat manusia yang satu, marilah kita bersama dengan hati nurani yang bersih dan atas nama solidariti kemanusiaan, menolak naratif ciptaan puak pelampau ini dan teguhkanlah sifat kemanusiaan kita serta sikap saling menghormati kemuliaan nyawa setiap manusia.
